Description

Back in in her day, the USS Swordfish. Couldn't run with her self illumination lights on. Because certain hostile ships, would make them a target due, to how the ship was lit. It was only due to recent, events in ship upgrades, in better defences and weapons. Ships could be self lit, showing hostile foes that starship means business and not to mess them!

Ahh, the self-illumination of ships as a deterrent idea?  I like!  Very similar it sounds how as part of the United States' deterrant effort, we will often send an aircraft carrier into waters near where tensions are starting to a little warm to show agressors 'You see this 4.5 acres of sovereign U.S. territory loaded to the brim with warplanes?  They can and WILL be armed and sent your way if you try something!  BACK.  OFF.'  In a similar fashion, I imagine then in the late 23rd Century and much of the 24th, a big starship showing up where there was bickering and saber-rattling going on did serve well to warn the locals to ratchet down the tensions or the Feds were going to ratchet it down for them, and then show no preferences at all in who got hauled off in the brig to the courts.
